But most of all, like our Savior, pastors should be shepherds. As a senior church pastor you’ll be expected to discern God’s will for your congregation, illuminate Scripture, and inspire people to follow God. At Southeastern, we’ll teach you the skills to become a pastor and arrange for you to practice ministry in church settings. Southeastern will give you solid pastoral training so you can begin preparing for your life’s call as an undergraduate. We’ll teach you different pastoral and administrative techniques. We’ll also give you opportunities to take courses outside of church ministry so you’ll develop a broad knowledge base that’ll enable you to discuss ideas and issues with sophistication and godly wisdom. Preparing for Ministry Southeastern’s church ministries program begins with our Christ-centered liberal arts (general education) core curriculum, where you develop an understanding and appreciation of God and His creation, human creativity and reason, and our place of responsibility as stewards in the world God has made. As you forge links between what you’ve learned in the core and the more specialized courses in your major, our hope is that you also begin to relate all that you learn to your life and your faith. Within the church ministries major itself, you’ll study theories of pastoral leadership. You’ll learn how to construct sermons and deliver them in a variety of settings. And you’ll choose an academic minor—from missions to social services— to help you develop an interest that’ll enhance your ministry. After your study of theories, techniques, and other subjects, you'll observe ministry first-hand and apply what you’ve learned. During four semester-long, practicum courses you’ll observe, practice, and reflect upon ministry in churches and other organizations. Your training will then culminate with a 10-week internship at a church where you’ll practice performing all of the ministerial duties of a senior pastor. What's Next?
