Biography

Phillip “Phil” Schmitt serves as the Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Southeastern University (SEU) in Lakeland, Florida. In this role, Phil leads and oversees the university’s financial operations, drives initiatives to enhance organizational culture, supports institutional projects, and prioritizes operational efficiencies through improved systems and processes, with the goal of scaling operations alongside SEU’s enrollment growth.

Phil’s servant leadership style and collaborative approach foster cross-functional teamwork, a dynamic understanding of both operational and strategic contexts, responsible stewardship of financial resources, and a strong emphasis on human capital. These qualities support the advancement of SEU’s strategic initiatives and alignment with institutional goals.

In addition to his work in higher education, Phil serves as a board member and volunteer for several nonprofit organizations. He contributes by offering practical insights into financial operations, leadership and cultural development, and sustainable systems solutions that strengthen organizational effectiveness.

Previously, Phil served as Director of Finance at both SEU and Roberts Wesleyan College. Since 2012, he has held a variety of finance and accounting roles in higher education. His commitment to excellence in the field has strengthened team performance and improved decision-making through meaningful financial reporting and a clearer understanding of how operations impact overall financial health.

Phil is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Rochester.

 

Outside of his professional and volunteer roles, Phil enjoys creating lasting memories with his family. Whether through unique experiences, vacations, time at the beach, Disney trips, travel, church involvement, or appreciating the simple moments of daily life, he values the joy of shared experiences and connection.
