Master of Social Work a the University of Central Florida
BS in Psychology at Florida Southern College
Gina Claxton initially entered the field of mental health pursuing a degree in Psychology, but after the guidance and good shepherding of her undergrad field director, she was pointed in a direction where she could get her degree in a shorter amount of time and still be able to serve the populations she wanted to work with. That's how she entered the field of Social Work!
Gina Claxton has been working as a therapist in private practice since 2014 and continues to see clients part time as she loves this work. Her specialty populations include play therapy, working with couples and families, as well as anxiety disorders. She has training in the Gottman method, an empirically based research practice to treat couples. She also has a certificate in marriage and family therapy as well as Christian counseling. She began her teaching journey in 2017 when she served as an adjunct at her alma mater, and then later had the opportunity to adjunct at SEU in 2021. She joined the team full time in 2023 and loves shepherding her students the same way she was by her professors and supervisor during her undergrad.
Between being a Mom, Professor and Therapist there isn't a ton of time for hobbies but she does enjoy traveling, cooking, and interior design.
