We are honored to announce that the SEU Board of Trustees has named Dr. Samuel Hemby as Professor Emeritus in recognition of his outstanding contributions to our university, ministry, and theological education.
Educational Reach & Impact
Dr. Hemby currently serves as a professor of practical theology within the Barnett College of Ministry & Theology. His dedicated service to SEU spans more than 23 years and first began in 2001 within the role of adjunct professor. Becoming a full-time faculty member in 2006, Dr. Hemby’s teaching has included undergraduate and graduate education in leadership, ministry, and biblical studies. His expertise in religious studies and theology range from Theology I and New Testament Survey to the History and Practice of Evangelism and Church Administration.
Over the years, he expanded his educational influence to business and management, teaching courses in Church Business Administration and Organizational Behavior and Leadership Styles. The quality and merit of his instruction has been recognized with SEU’s Faculty Achievement/Teaching Excellence Award in 2017.
Dr. Hemby has also served as the director of Graduate Studies and Internships for the Barnett College of Ministry & Theology. Within this role, he developed a master’s program, coordinated faculty, and placed over 75 interns in churches nationwide annually. In addition, he directed the Center for Christian Leadership and organized key pastoral training events.

Dedicating his life to academic excellence, ministry, and service, Dr. Hemby has touched the lives of countless students, as well as church leaders worldwide.
Since 1978, Dr. Hemby has served in full-time ministerial roles including youth and christian education pastor, state evangelist, and senior pastor, ministering across multiple states and internationally as a speaker and guest professor.
His own academic journey reflects his deep commitment to scholarship, earning degrees from North Carolina State University, Lee University, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Regent University.
