SEU Partners with Visit Central Florida

We are so excited to announce the launch of a unique and exciting partnership with Visit Central Florida (VCF) through a three-credit course for our hospitality majors. The course is based on VCF’s popular Certified Ambassador of Tourism and Sports (CATS) Program with the goal of showing students the ins and outs of the hospitality industry in Polk County.

About the Class

The class, “Special Topics in Tourism & Hospitality Management,” will be taught during the fall semester by Dr. Amy Harrelson, our Tourism and Hospitality Management program director and professor, and Savannah Rudolph, Visit Central Florida education coordinator and developer of the CATS Program. The duo will welcome industry leaders in travel, tourism, and hospitality, and include trips to attractions, accommodations, and businesses in Polk County.

“I am excited about partnering with VCF for this innovative and experiential learning course,” said Dr. Harrelson. “Students will learn about local hospitality businesses and gain an understanding of what goes on behind the scenes to create the guest experience. They will also start building their network in the industry. The participating organizations have the opportunity to engage with SEU students, creating a talent pipeline for Polk County tourism and hospitality businesses.”

“Our county has so much to offer,” said Rudolph. “It is continuously growing, as well as our demand for hospitality professionals. We hope to keep our local talent. With a combination of site visits and lectures from local hotels, attractions, and companies, we will give the students a real look into the hospitality industry.”

Behind the CATS Program

The CATS Program is VCF’s innovative training program for locals and hospitality professionals. The goal is for ambassadors to learn and experience Polk County and all it offers. The ambassadors can then influence and encourage visitors to enjoy Polk County. With the program, ambassadors become an expert in all things fun in Polk County.
