SEU has recently announced that the Director of Nursing, Dr. Susie Tasker-Weaver, will be retiring at the end of the 2022-23 academic year. Dr. Susie has played an integral role in the development and advancement of the university’s nursing program, and has served as the director since 2017.
“It has been my dream since 2003 for SEU to have a nursing program, and since I came on board, I’ve been able to see it grow exponentially,” said Dr. Susie. “I’ve witnessed the program go from around 25 students to over 95 students — and there’s still room to grow. The SEU community has truly become my family, so entering this new chapter is bittersweet.”
Dr. Susie’s Impact at SEU
Under her leadership, SEU’s nursing program has received a 10-year accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) extending to October of 2030. Most recently, Dr. Susie oversaw the launch of a Master’s of Science in Nursing degree this past fall.
Dr. Susie has been a nurse for 45 years and a nurse educator for over 35 years. Prior to SEU, she has served at Allegany College of Maryland, Liberty University and Frostburg State University. Dr. Susie also has diverse experience in clinical practice, working as a critical care/emergency/trauma nurse for over 15 years as well as serving five years in nursing administration.
“I cannot begin to express how grateful we are to Dr. Susie for her continued commitment to our students and for the decades of service she’s dedicated to higher education,” said Dr. Aimee Franklin, dean of SEU’s College of Natural and Health Sciences.
About the Search
In light of her retirement, SEU has now begun a nationwide search for a candidate to fill a Chief Nursing Administrator position. The applicants will be reviewed by a search committee led by Dr. Janet Fansler, former Executive Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive at Lakeland Regional Health.
The committee is currently accepting applications for the position and will be reviewing them as they are received.
