We are excited to announce that our Carrión Hispanic Leadership Center will be hosting a lecture series in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month on Thursday, September 21.
The series is intended to recognize and honor Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place this year from September 15 to October 15, and highlight the contributions that the Hispanic community has made to theological education, ministry, and advocacy within the U.S.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Bush Chapel. All sessions are free and open to the entire community. It will begin with a worship service and a word from the founder and president of the National Latino Evangelical Coalition (NaLEC), Rev. Dr. Gabriel Salguero; vice president of NaLEC and executive director of the Carrión Center, Rev. Jeanette Salguero; and general superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Rev. Doug Clay.
Event Sessions and Speakers
At 10:30 a.m., Rev. Clay will provide a lecture on learnings from the Assemblies of God and the Latino church’s contributions, growth, and challenges. As a member of the Assemblies of God executive leadership team, Rev. Clay helps oversee part of the largest Pentecostal denomination in the world. He has served in many positions in the Assemblies of God denomination, from youth pastor to general treasurer. He has also authored two books, “Dreaming in 3D” and “Ordered Steps.”
Rev. Clay’s lecture will be followed by a panel discussion about the state of Latino church health at 11:40 a.m. Panelists include Rev. Dennis Rivera and Rev. Dr. Carlos Moran. Rev. Rivera is the director of Hispanic Relations for the General Council of the Assemblies of God, and Rev. Moran is the director of Hispanic Ministries for the Church of God.
The afternoon session, beginning at 1:45 p.m., will feature a panel discussion on spiritual formation in the Latino church. Panelists include Rev. Elly Carolina Marroquin, Rev. Marya Reyes-Lugo, and Rev. Peter Rivera Jr. Rev. Marroquin is the director of Christian Education and Discipleship for the Assemblies of God. Rev. Reyes-Lugo is the vice president of the Eastern Region of the Church of God International Pentecostal Movement. Rev. Rivera is the lead pastor of Holy Movement Church in Orlando, Florida.
