SEU Receives $10 Million Grant to Launch The Kingdom Alliance

We are thrilled to announce that SEU has been awarded a $10 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. as part of its Pathways for Tomorrow Initiative. The funding is intended to help theological schools in the United States and Canada work collaboratively with other schools and church-related organizations to strengthen their preparation and support of aspiring and current pastoral leaders.

Charting the Future of Christian Higher Education

The grant will allow SEU to launch The Kingdom Alliance for Higher Education (KAHE) — a mission-first, future-ready network built on three foundational commitments: preserved legacy and identity; focused mission and vision; and shared operational services.

Designed to strengthen institutions that are committed to serving the Church through faith-centered teaching and spiritual formation, KAHE will exist to help faith-based colleges and universities flourish despite the current challenges to higher education. Members of KAHE will be able to retain their distinct theological traditions, institutional culture, and historical integrity through the alliance’s scalable, cost-efficient solutions that allow schools to thrive without compromising academic or legal independence.

United for a Kingdom Purpose

KAHE will offer an innovative model for sustainability and growth — empowering institutions to maintain their identity while benefiting from shared services and collective strength. Members will have the opportunity to access shared funding opportunities; grants and philanthropic contributions; reduce operational costs through centralized services and resource pooling; launch micro-campuses in churches, schools, and community centers; and more.

Through the alliance, SEU will be collaborating with institutions such as Northwest University and North Central University.

“We are deeply grateful to Lilly Endowment for its visionary commitment to strengthening theological education,” said President Kent Ingle. “This funding will empower us to forge a collaborative network that preserves the unique identity of each institution while creating a shared infrastructure that enhances sustainability, innovation, and mission-driven impact. The launch of the Kingdom Alliance represents a bold step toward securing the future of Christian higher education and preparing leaders who will faithfully serve the Church for generations to come.”
