Dr. Chad Neuman

Bio

Dr. Neuman is a professor of communication and digital media as well as the chair of online programs in the Jannetides College of Business, Communication, and Leadership. His primary areas of research and teaching include visual communication, storytelling and narrative analysis, digital design, and philosophy of communication. He has been published in various commercial and academic publications, including The SAGE Encyclopedia of Journalism and Journal of Media Ethics.

Dr. Neuman teaches courses such as Storytelling and Persuasion, Web Design and Development, Magazine Design and Production, Advanced Digital Imaging, Photography, and the study abroad course International Visual Storytelling (in Australia and Italy). As chair, he has improved various assessment processes and curricular quality, while also launching various new courses and popular programs at SEU. Dr. Neuman is also a well-known Adobe software and design expert in the context of photography and graphic design.

Besides his academic accomplishments, Dr. Neuman also brings relevant professional experience to his teaching and guidance of students. Before teaching in a full-time capacity, he worked as internet development director at an award-winning advertising design agency, managing editor of two graphic design magazines, webmaster and technology librarian at a city library system, web designer at a regional newspaper, and layout designer/proofreader at a regional newspaper.

Dr. Neuman loves guiding students as they pursue truth and beauty, whether they are designing logos and websites, writing persuasive stories, analyzing a film or advertisement, or taking photos in other countries. He enjoys spending time with this wife, son, and daughter as well as extended family and friends. He also likes travelling, reading, playing sports (soccer, weightlifting, and adult league kickball), and enjoying food that is delicious and healthy (especially tacos).
