Dr. Carson has spent much of his academic career at The University of Wyoming in Laramie, Palm Beach Atlantic University in Orlando, and most recently Regis University in Denver, Colorado. He currently has over 100 publications, including seven books. Dr. Carson is rated in the 94th percentile rank internationally in terms of research interest on Research Gate. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Colorado and for years has been a Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). For periods of time throughout his academic career he has been involved in part-time private practice in psychotherapy, couples and family therapy, and clinical supervision.
Dr. Carson has also been involved with counselor training, community development, and disaster mental health work in South Asia (India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and the border areas of Bhutan) for many years and has been a Fulbright Senior Scholar in North India. In addition, he has been a visiting professor at several universities and institutes throughout India since the 1990’s. In terms of his interests in and contributions to psychotherapy, Dr. Carson has been a pioneer in the integration of creativity and experiential therapy. He is currently exploring the relation between right-brain hemispheric functioning in both therapists and clients, and creative and experiential approaches to therapy.
Dr. Carson is married to Dr. Cecyle Carson, a retired Associate Professor of Communication Disorders. Together they have five children and 10 grandchildren. David and Cecyle enjoy being with family and traveling both domestically and internationally. His favorite activity is trekking in the Himalayas and the Rocky Mountains.
