Hannah Sims serves as Chair of the Department of Art at Southeastern University, bringing together her work as a studio artist, design professional, educator, and spiritual director around a shared passion for formation. She holds a BFA in Visual Arts—Studio, an MA in Art Education, and a Doctor of Ministry, and is a certified spiritual director.
Sims has taught since 2018 and has served at Southeastern since 2023. As an independent designer for more than a decade, she has worked across creative disciplines, while her studio practice includes metal sculpture and other forms of visual art. Her academic work focuses on art pedagogy, curriculum design, and developing formational learning systems that equip students not simply to master a craft, but to become thoughtful, capable, and purposeful creators.
Sims believes that the gift of the true creative is the ability to see the world through a unique lens. She seeks to help students discover their own artistic voices and then offer those voices back to the world in ways that reveal God’s truth, wisdom, and beauty. Her goal is to develop exceptional professionals who are competitive in their fields while remaining grounded, discerning, and courageous enough to shape culture rather than simply conform to it.
In addition to her work in Art & Design, Sims serves as a Faculty Fellow supporting instructional design at Southeastern and as a spiritual director to pastors. She co-authored a book on spiritual direction and spiritually directed living with her husband, Jeremy.
