Dr. Tyson Voigt is an arts administrator, educator, and versatile percussionist dedicated to advancing multi-disciplinary arts education, regional cultural partnerships, and creative collaboration. He currently serves as Dean of the College of Truth, Beauty, and Culture at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, where he oversees programs spanning music, visual art, humanities, and theatre. He also serves as Principal Percussionist with the Lakeland Symphony Orchestra and sits on the City of Lakeland Mayor’s Council on the Arts.
As an executive arts leader, Tyson has spearheaded transformative academic and structural initiatives. Under his leadership, the university successfully earned national accreditation membership with NASM, launched new degree offerings—including the nation’s first PhD in Classical Education—and achieved a 44% enrollment growth in music. His administrative work encompasses multi-million dollar endowment strategies, community grant adjudication, capital projects, and expanding regional partnerships with organizations such as the Polk Arts & Cultural Alliance and the AGB Museum of Art.
Tyson’s extensive performance background spans classical to commercial music, avant-garde to early music classics. He has performed across the United States and Europe in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. His creative career includes collaborations with Pulitzer Prize-winning composers Steve Reich and David Lang, as well as featured soloist appearances with the Lakeland Symphony Orchestra and the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. An ardent advocate for new music, he has commissioned and premiered numerous works, including 15 pieces with the soprano/percussion Resound Duo alongside Dr. Jennifer Voigt.
Driven by a passion for faculty mentorship, student access, and cross-disciplinary innovation, Tyson continues to integrate rigorous academic leadership with active creative practice to enrich both campus life and the broader arts ecosystem. Tyson endorses Remo products and resides with his family in Lakeland, Florida.
