Active Duty, Military-Connected & Veterans

Benefits & Resources for Military Students

Honoring Those Who Serve

We consider it a true honor to welcome those who have served, or are currently serving, God and our country in the armed forces. Here, students who are military-connected (veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, National Guard members, and military dependents) will find the community, support, and resources you need to thrive at SEU. No matter how you learn with SEU, our entire community is here to support you every step of the way.

Southeastern University is approved for the certification of students who are eligible to receive educational assistance from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and U.S. Department of Defense (DOD Tuition Assistance). To learn about your benefits under the GI Bill®, visit the website for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Students using tuition assistance should first check with their Education Service Officer (ESO) within their military unit for approval.

How to use your VA Benefits at SEU

To use your VA benefits, you must first apply to SEU. Once you have applied to SEU and saved your spot, you can begin the VA benefits process.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Apply to SEU and save your spot if you’re accepted. (Visit SEU.edu/admission for details.)
  2. Apply for benefits on the VA website at gibill.va.gov.
  3. Submit a copy of your certificate of eligibility that you receive. Contact the SEU Office of Student Financial Services at veteransbenefits@seu.edu if you have any questions.
  4. Our certifying official will certify your enrollment hours and tuition to the VA website immediately following the add/drop period for each semester that you are enrolled.

SEU's VA School Certifying Official

At Southeastern University, we’re committed to supporting our veteran and military-connected students. Our VA School Certifying team is here to assist you in navigating your VA education benefits and other financial aid options that can help cover your tuition and related educational costs.

Before we recommend, offer, arrange, or enroll any service members in private student loans, we ensure that you have received access to institutional financial aid counseling. This includes:

  • A clear and complete explanation of all available financial aid options, including those under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended.
  • A detailed comparison between federal and private student loans—covering terms, repayment, forgiveness options, and more.
  • Guidance on your right to decline or borrow less than the maximum loan amount for which you’re eligible.

* Southeastern University personnel are not employees of the Department of Veteran Affairs, and therefore do not have access to veterans’ records. However, the certifying official will certify class enrollment to the Veterans Administration in Atlanta and monitor academic progress.

Transfer Your Credits to SEU

Southeastern University (SEU) is transfer-credit friendly, meaning our degrees are designed to seamlessly incorporate your previous academic work into your new degree goals. To see how your credits transfer, visit our transfer student page and choose “Checking your credit hours.”

We accept college credit from regionally-accredited institutions as well as credits earned through dual enrollment, AP, CLEP, IB, AICE, and more.

But that’s not all — SEU also honors prior learning experiences outside the traditional classroom. That includes credits for:

  • Experiential/portfolio learning, including military education
  • Established credentials and certificate programs
  • Career training and industry certifications

Learn more about Experiential Learning Credit here.

We recognize the importance of your service, so college credit may also be available for military experience and training. Please see the Prior Learning Assessment policy for military credit in the SEU Catalog for more details.
To proceed with evaluating prior learning experiences, please email transcriptevaluation@seu.edu. Additionally, current students may connect with their assigned academic advisor for support.

Student Support Services

SEU offers a variety of support resources (both through the university and trusted third-party partners), to help military members, veterans, and their families succeed in their academic and career goals.

Mentorship is an essential part of the SEU experience. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with faculty and staff who have served in the military and understand your unique journey. Whether you’re looking for guidance, encouragement, or simply someone who “gets it,” we’re here for you.

To be connected with a mentor, reach out to the Student Veterans Association at sva@seu.edu, and we’ll pair you with someone who can walk alongside you during your time at SEU.

SEU’s Student Veterans Association (SVA)

Southeastern University’s chapter of the SVA is a student-run organization dedicated to providing practical guidance with military benefits while also offering support through prayer, Bible study, spiritual mentorship, and community. The SVA chapter at SEU creates space for veterans to connect, raise awareness on campus of veteran issues, and serve local veterans through outreach and advocacy.

ROTC Opportunities at SEU

At Southeastern University, students have the opportunity to participate in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) through two distinct pathways: Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC.

In partnership with Florida Southern College

Southeastern University partners with Florida Southern College (FSC) to offer students access to one of the nation’s premier leadership development programs, Army ROTC. Established in 1951, FSC’s Army ROTC program prepares students to become leaders in both military and civilian careers. Army ROTC equips you with the skills, discipline, and leadership training that are highly valued in any career field.

Through this partnership, SEU students can pursue their degree while simultaneously working toward a commission as a United States Army Officer. Army ROTC also offers scholarships and financial incentives depending on a student’s academic level.

For More Information, Contact:

In Partnership with the University of South Florida via Transient Enrollment

SEU students may also pursue Air Force ROTC through transient enrollment at USF. While SEU does not currently host an Air Force ROTC detachment on campus, students are eligible to enroll in AFROTC courses at USF.

If you’re interested in learning more about the USF Air Force ROTC opportunity and how to get started, please visit this website.  You can contact the Office of the Registrar at registrar@seu.edu for guidance on the transient process.
