If you’re on the path to a graduate-level medical program, the MS in Medical Sciences (MSMS) at SEU is designed specifically for you.
This degree will give you an edge in multiple advanced-study degree programs, including medical, dental, pharmacy, optometry, or veterinary school. The program also prepares you for the advanced study required to be a physician assistant (PA), anesthesiologist assistant, physical therapist, or medical researcher.
Your Degree. Your Way.
As part of our commitment to providing customizable degree options, SEU has recently expanded this program to include two distinct learning formats.*
Both options are:
- Ideal for students who are choosing to take additional time before applying to graduate programs or who want to gain additional knowledge before they reapply.
- Designed with the academic challenges, critical thinking, and clinical insight necessary for long-term success.
- Presented in a faith-based, mentorship-driven environment.
- Offered in a livestreamed format, where both on-campus and online students attend virtual, live lessons at designated class times.
- Created to ensure that mentorship by SEU faculty is provided as assignments are completed.
This unique blend of structured learning with personalized support was created to build and reinforce in-depth knowledge and to improve graduate program application outcomes.
Flipped Classroom
The on-campus program is offered in a “flipped classroom” format, giving you the benefits of connecting with other students in-person and engaging with faculty mentors, all while attending the livestreamed classes together.
About the Advanced Standing Format
Opt for this accelerated, three-semester option if you already have a bachelor’s degree in the sciences and meet specific academic criteria. Because you will not need to take bridge courses, you’ll be able to begin your degree journey in the fall or spring semester, and choose to take your classes either fully online or on-campus via the flipped classroom learning model.
About the Traditional Format
This format offers five semesters of structured, face-to-face learning, beginning in the fall semester with advanced courses (and accompanying labs) in Organic Chemistry and Physics. In addition to setting you up for success in the MSMS program, these courses will also give you hands-on laboratory experience and the opportunity to participate in academic research. This path is ideal if you wish to enhance your science background or if you are choosing to move into the medical field from a different degree background. The traditional format begins in-person for the first two semesters.. Afterward, you can choose to continue your on-campus learning or switch to the online model.
*Note: All students who are not attending on-campus will still need to attend classes virtually during appointed class times.
What Makes this Program Unique?
SEU’s MS in Medical Sciences is one of the few programs to blend rigorous academics with immersive, clinically relevant experiences that make a difference in admission and in practice. You’ll graduate from SEU prepared to excel in professional healthcare programs, as well as work one-on-one with patients.
“SEU is dedicated to meeting students where they are and bridging the gaps to get them to their next steps,” said Dr. Megan Hudson, PA-C, DMSc, an SEU alumna and faculty member who serves as the program chair. “The need for medical professionals continues to grow, so setting these students up for success is crucial for the future of healthcare.”
The core purpose of the MSMS degree is to help future medical professionals become outstanding servant leaders in their fields. “The decision to enter a career in healthcare requires tenacity and commitment, but it is also essential to gain practical clinical experience,” said Hudson. “That’s why, unlike other programs of this type, SEU also offers our students the chance to engage in real-world, hands-on learning throughout their MSMS degree journey, regardless of which path they are on.”
These experiences include:
Medical Missions & Global Health — Apply your skills in real-world settings while serving others.
Science Symposium Judging & Research Engagement — Sharpen your scientific communication skills while giving back to the academic community.
Mentorship Opportunities — Build your professional network with guidance from our experienced faculty, and increase your leadership skills as you collaborate with your peers.
Anatomage Table — Students who attend MSMS classes on campus have access to our cutting-edge 3D Anatomage Table. This virtual dissection tool gives students the opportunity to learn anatomical details and practice procedures on real human bodies without physical cadavers.
Medical School Visits & Application Preparation — SEU has relationships with multiple graduate programs and medical schools. Your interactions with these institutions will allow you to gain realistic perspectives on professional expectations and the grad school admission process.
Personalized Readiness Tracking — Using predictive analytics, the MSMS provides you with customized, real-time reporting and analysis of your progress. These data-driven responses help you understand your strengths and areas for growth, and they take the guesswork out of knowing whether you’re prepared for the MCAT and medical school curriculum.
