With SEU, I am Supported — Kohltan’s Story

Kohltan, a student at SEU, smiling in front of a read background.

For Kohltan, choosing a college came through prayer, mentorship, and a sense of direction from God. After visiting SEU with his mentor, he felt drawn to something about SEU’s campus. As he continued praying about his next steps, he felt confident that SEU was where he was meant to be. That decision led him to pursue a BS in Ministerial Leadership, where he’s been able to grow in his faith, build meaningful relationships, and step into what God is calling him to do. Now set to graduate in 2029, Kohltan’s experience at SEU has been shaped by the support he’s received.

Finding Support in Unexpected Moments

When Kohltan reflects on his time at SEU, one word stands out: supported.

Starting college comes with a lot of change, and for Kohltan, those first few weeks brought moments of loneliness.

“I had times where I felt really alone and started to isolate myself,” he shared.

But even in those moments, he wasn’t left on his own.

“Every time, somehow my roommate would show up asking me to hang out or inviting me somewhere.”

Those small, consistent moments made a big impact.

“I felt supported, because on my bad days or bad weeks, someone has always been there to pick me up.”

Building Confidence Through Community

What started as simple invitations turned into something deeper: community.

“That experience gave me a close friend on campus and the confidence to meet others too,” he said.

Those relationships didn’t just impact him socially, but spiritually as well.

“We started going to young adults at my home church together, and it really helped me grow.”

Through community, Kohltan found both connection and encouragement through the people who showed up, invited him in, and helped him take steps forward.

A Calling to Ministry

Kohltan’s decision to study Ministerial Leadership came from a clear sense of calling.

“I felt called by the Lord,” he shared. “I want to help people remember that they are seen by Jesus and by His people.”

At SEU, he’s been able to explore that calling in both the classroom and through hands-on experiences.

His Bible classes have given him new ways to understand and engage with Scripture.

“They’ve shown me different perspectives and helped me learn how to read the Bible in new ways,” he said.

At the same time, his involvement in creative roles has helped him develop practical skills and grow professionally.

Professors Who Encourage

One of the things that has stood out most to Kohltan is the way professors create an environment where students feel comfortable and supported.

“So many professors have made it feel easy to be myself,” he said.

That kind of encouragement has helped him grow not just academically, but personally as well.

Growing Spiritually Every Day

Being at SEU has also made a significant impact on Kohltan’s relationship with God.

“It’s made it so much easier to want to get into the Word, to pray, and to spend time with God,” he shared.

With faith integrated into everyday life on campus, spiritual growth becomes a natural part of the student experience.

“The way the university encourages it makes it easier to stay consistent.”

Learning Through Experience

Beyond the classroom, Kohltan has grown through the hands-on opportunities he’s received working as a practicum student on the SEU Creative team.

“It’s helped me stay organized and committed,” he said.

These experiences have given him practical skills while also helping him develop discipline and responsibility.

A Community That Lasts

Throughout his time at SEU, Kohltan has built relationships that he believes will continue after he graduates from SEU.

“My roommate, people in my classes, and people I’ve met through chapel and events,” he shared. “There’s been a lot of meaningful connections.”

Those relationships have been a steady source of support, reminding him that he’s not walking through this season alone.

Looking Ahead

As Kohltan continues his journey, he feels confident in what God is doing in his life.

With the support of his community, professors, and experiences at SEU, he is stepping into his calling with clarity and purpose.

Community Focus

Kohltan’s story reflects what it means to be supported at SEU — a place where people show up for you, encourage you, and walk alongside you through every season.

For students considering SEU, his advice is rooted in faith:

“Even with all the questions you have about your future, if SEU is the right place for you, everything you do and pray about will lead you back here.”
