John Pokhan, a 2022 graduate of Southeastern University with a degree in Secondary Education/Biology, now serves as a middle school science teacher at First Baptist Academy in Naples. In his classroom, science and faith are not separate conversations, but deeply connected truths that point back to the Creator.
“I love showing my students how the Bible and science connect, and how God created everything with such intentional purpose,” John shared.
Faith at the Center of the Classroom
Each day, John has the opportunity to shape not only the academic growth of his students, but their spiritual lives as well. From praying together to walking alongside them in their faith journeys, his classroom is grounded in a shared mission: living a life that honors Christ.
“We do things 4HG — 4 His Glory,” he said.
Modeling the Mission
John credits his experience at SEU with preparing him to teach through a biblical worldview. His professors demonstrated what it looks like to integrate faith into every area of life and learning.
“Through my science courses, I learned to see how the design of the world beautifully parallels our biblical worldview,” he said.
From the College of Education to the School of Honors program and the College of Natural & Health Sciences, John found mentors who invested in both his academic and spiritual formation.
Their influence and investment in his calling continue to shape how he teaches, leads, and serves today.
Equipped to Make a Difference
Now in his own classroom, John is carrying that investment forward by helping the next generation see the world through both a scientific and spiritual lens.
Propelled by his learning at SEU, John is empowered to teach students how the world works, as well as the significance behind the One who created it.
“I’m deeply grateful for everything I learned during my time at SEU,” John shared. “Thank you SEU for equipping me to integrate faith and learning every day!”
