Supporting Trades Education in the Community

We are proud to announce that SEU will be co-sponsoring the Lakeland Police Athletic League’s (PAL) 2024 Summer Trades Academy. This year, there will be two camps: one at the IES Residential Florida Education Center in Lakeland, Florida, from June 3 to 14, and another at the Ridge Technical College in Winter Haven, Florida, from June 17 to 28.

About the Academy

The Summer Trades Academy is a free camp for Polk County students in grades 9 through 12. Not only does this program provide a positive youth engagement experience between the high school students and local law enforcement, but it also provides hands-on experience and instruction from industry professionals in carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, roofing, and more.

This initiative is a collaborative effort hosted by PAL in partnership with the Polk County School Board, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Auburndale Police Department, Lake Wales Police Department, Haines City Police Department, and Winter Haven Police Department.

Inspiring Students

By highlighting the importance of vocational careers within the community, the camp offers students the chance to explore potential careers in the trades sector. The objective is to ignite enthusiasm for vocational trades and subsequently establish connections between these students and industry professionals in their chosen field, fostering mentoring and collaborative work relationships. By keeping that student and industry professional connected through graduation, there can be a smooth transition from school into the workforce.
