We are honored to announce that we have appointed Jonathan Rivera as our new campus pastor. He will officially begin in the role on June 12, 2023.

James and Brittany Powell, who have been serving as SEU’s campus pastors since the summer of 2021, will be transitioning to new positions on the pastoral team at Red Rocks Church in Denver, Colorado.

“As a university community, we are incredibly grateful for the impact that the Powells have had on our campus over the last two years,” said SEU President Dr. Kent Ingle. “We will be praying for them as they enter this next stage of what God has for them,”

About Pastor Jonathan

Before coming to SEU, Rivera served as the District Youth Director of the Florida Multicultural District of the Assemblies of God. With extensive experience working with youth communities, Rivera has served young people in the local church for more than 10 years and has preached throughout the United States and around the world. Rivera has also served as the junior high pastor, the lead youth pastor and the creative pastor at Calvario Church in Orlando, Florida.

“Pastor Jonathan has already left a mark on our community, taking the time to attend our chapel services and pray for our students,” said Ingle. “He is a dynamic leader with a clear passion for the local church, ethnic diversity and building up the next generation of leaders who will influence and shape our world. I am beyond excited to have him join us, and I truly believe that he is equipped to lead our entire community as we step into this exciting new season.”

“For years, SEU has been on the forefront of discipling the next generation of Spirit-empowered leaders, influencers and followers of Jesus who will transform and redeem culture across the world, through the message and demonstration of the Gospel,” Rivera stated. “I want to be a part of the intentional spiritual formation of this next generation who will become answers to the greatest problems in our culture in and outside of the Church.”

He continued, “As a university with such a rich Pentecostal heritage, the vibrant spiritual atmosphere at SEU that you experience on campus, in chapels and at conference, is something that I want to preserve and protect. It’s truly what makes the SEU experience transformational.”

Welcome, Pastor Jonathan!
