Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Charles Smith

It is with deep sadness that we inform our community of the passing of one of our cherished faculty members, Dr. Charles K. Smith, lovingly known by his friends and family members as Chuck.

Dr. Smith served as the coordinator of the master’s program in Educational Leadership and taught online courses in our Master of Education and Doctor of Education programs.

We would like to extend our most sincere sympathies and prayers to Dr. Smith’s family, friends, fellow faculty, students, and anyone who had the privilege to know him. Dr. Smith served our community with excellence for 15 years, and his commitment was evident through the compassion he had for both his students and his coworkers.

Dr. Smith was an SEU alumnus and dreamed of returning to campus as a professor ever since he received his bachelor’s degree in 1986. When he rejoined the university community, he had amassed 19 years of experience in Christian school education as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and administrator/headmaster. Dr. Smith also served as the president of the Florida League of Christian Schools for seven years and the president of the Association of Christian Teachers and Schools for four years.

In addition, Dr. Smith was an ordained Assemblies of God minister and served as a youth/associate pastor and a senior pastor for many years.

Dr. Smith had an unparalleled ability to equip future teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to make an impact not only on the lives of their students, but on their entire communities. We are grateful for Dr. Smith and the lasting mark he left on our community. We were truly so blessed to have his wisdom and leadership on our faculty.

Please join us in praying for the peace of the Lord to comfort Dr. Smith’s loved ones during this difficult time.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, October 1, at 4 p.m. at Faith Assembly, Stephen’s Chapel, 9307 Curry Ford Road, in Orlando.
