The Latest on the FAFSA — Spring 2024

Three students, one male and two female, are walking across the lawn in front of the Buena Vida building.

At last, we have some important updates to share about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)! If you have not yet submitted your FAFSA, we encourage you to visit SEU.edu/FAFSA to see what to do next.

Why Was the FAFSA Delayed?

As you may be aware, the FAFSA application has been undergoing extensive revisions and changes, causing an extended delay in the ability for colleges to receive the tax and financial data that students submit.

These system changes have also caused many students to have difficulty submitting their FAFSA altogether. For more information, visit SEU.edu/FAFSA2024.

Has FAFSA Data Been Released Yet?

The good news is that the wait is (hopefully!) over! SEU has begun to receive and load the data from students who were able to successfully submit their FAFSA. Our offices are now carefully evaluating these applications as they come into our system. We began sending out financial aid offers to students starting in the month of April and will continue to do so as we receive more students’ data.

Who Does the FAFSA Apply To?

While the FAFSA is primarily used to help determine eligibility for need-based aid, students who are hoping to secure any type of financial aid are advised to complete the FAFSA. (This includes students who are U.S. citizens, or eligible non-citizens — international students would not submit it).

This includes on-campus (traditional) undergraduates, online undergraduates, master’s students, doctoral students, and students who are attending SEU via one of our partner sites. If you have not yet submitted your FAFSA, we encourage you to visit SEU.edu/FAFSA to see what to do next.
