We are so excited to announce that we have been named one of the best colleges in the nation to work for by the Great Colleges to Work For® program, one of the largest and most respected workplace recognition programs in the country.
Recognition & Honors
Based on a survey of 216 colleges and universities, only 75 institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for best practices and policies.
“I am honored that SEU has been recognized for its emphasis on the intrinsic value and needs of each individual within our university community,” reflected President Kent Ingle. “Whether faculty, staff, or student, we wouldn’t be where we are today without their efforts and contributions.”
This was our first year participating in the program, and we won honors in the categories of Mission & Pride, Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness, and Faculty & Staff Well-Being.
Breaking Down the Categories
The Mission & Pride category is related to the understanding of an institution’s mission and how one’s job impacts that mission. In addition, this category provides insight into the level of pride in being associated with the institution and the willingness to recommend the institution as an employer.
The Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness category is based on critical managerial competencies such as providing clear direction and constructive feedback and ensuring effective communication and equitable treatment.
The Faculty & Staff Well-Being category is based on the impact of one’s employment experience on their well-being, which includes the opportunity to do meaningful work, the support for work/life balance and the experience of a safe working environment.
Survey Background
The survey results were based on a two-part assessment process: a questionnaire that captures employment data and workplace policies and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in whether an institution received recognition was employee feedback.
