Residence Halls

Welcome Home!

Explore our residence halls and find out what to bring to college.

  • Laundry room — Free washer & dryer use (yes, free!)
  • Weekly housekeeping — From our friendly staff
  • Connectivity — Wi-Fi & phone hookup
  • SpectrumU App — Free access to 150 TV channels + on-demand streaming content
  • Furnishings — Including bed, dresser, desk + chair, window blinds
  • Common areas — TV areas, study lounges, courtyards

While your individual needs may vary, here’s a good list of necessities to get you started.

  • Bed linens such as blanket, bedspread, pillow, mattress pad and sheets*
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Toiletries/medications
  • Clothes, shoes, and hangers
  • Laundry supplies (such as a laundry basket or bag, detergent and dryer sheets)
  • School supplies
  • Day-to-day necessities such as an umbrella, sunglasses and a flashlight
  • Mini-refrigerator; 4 cubic feet or less (approximately 20”x 20”)**
  • Small microwave**

*The twin beds in our dorms are extra-long, measuring 80 inches in length. Many home goods stores and websites such as Our Campus Market sell this size bedding.

** Tip: Coordinate these purchases with your roommate(s) to save space and money.

Suggested extras

While not necessary, you might consider these items to help you feel more at home.

  • Bedside or desk lamp
  • Pictures or wall art
  • Bulletin board/dry erase board
  • Snacks
  • Organizing bins
  • Coffeemaker
  • Television
  • Bathrobe
  • Curtains

(Just remember you can’t use anything permanent or damaging, such as nails, to attach anything to your dorm walls. Most students use items such as white sticky tack, which removes cleanly and does not damage the walls.)

Clothing tip

While “campus casual” is the standard for attire around SEU, it’s a good idea to bring along a few professional-looking pieces of clothing for events such as in-class presentations, internship interviews or job fairs.

Don’t forget the tech

You’ll always want to stay connected, so be sure to bring your phone charger. If you prefer to tune in to music while you study, remember your headphones. Note that while you’re not required to own a computer, many students find that bringing their own laptop is very helpful, since it allows you to work and study just about anywhere. Wi-Fi is available throughout campus.

In every SEU residence hall, your resident director — an SEU staff member who lives full-time on campus — serves as a mentor and a continual source of encouragement. They’re always available to provide support, ensure your health and safety, pray for you, and connect you with the resources you need.
