About the Program

Academics

Our students take four courses per semester with the goal of graduating with a Link Postsecondary Program Certificate of Professional Readiness.

Link Courses. Two courses each semester are Link-specific. These classes teach skills such as employability, independent living, and self-advocacy, and are graded on a standard letter grade scale.
Elective Courses. Two courses are inclusive courses taken alongside traditional SEU students, giving both groups of students opportunities to learn from each other, forge friendships, and provide encouragement. Ideally, these elective courses are chosen to be in line with each student’s career interest area. The inclusive courses are taken on a pass/fail basis with an individually modified syllabus.
Courses for Credit – Optional. During their inclusive courses in their second semester, students who are able to adhere completely to the course syllabus may qualify to enroll in a course for credit during their third semester. Students who pass inclusive courses for credit may have the option to continue in the program past their second year, and may be able to transition to mainstream enrollment at SEU.

Timeline for Completion

Students receive 1 unit for each course which they complete. A total of 16 units is required to graduate, so students can expect to complete the program in two years. (Courses are offered in the fall and spring semesters only, and students are off for the summer.)

Plenty of Help is Available!

Our dedicated faculty closely monitor Link students to ensure they are making the satisfactory academic progress required to remain enrolled, and caring peer mentors provide academic support to Link students as needed.

How Link Students Grow

One of the best ways to learn is by doing, which is why SEU Link offers additional growth opportunities beyond the classroom.

Employability Skills. Link students participate in at least 3 semester-long job experiences. These experiences may be a combination of internships (on-campus) or externships (off-campus) and may be paid or unpaid. The number of hours expected for each internship will gradually increase from the first semester to the third. We do our best to match students with internships which are in line with their career field of interest, and the support of a peer mentor job coach is always available.

Independent Living Skills. Living on campus is an exciting option for qualified Link students, giving them a safe environment to learn independent living skills. Link students who choose to live on campus will live in one of our residence halls with a traditional SEU student who has been trained to serve as their individual Residential Peer Mentor. Support for residential Link students is plentiful through our Link Program Residential Director, SEU Residence Life staff, and SEU student leadership.
Apartment Living – Optional. Beginning in the fall of 2022, second-year Link students may qualify to live in a house located on the edge of campus. This house, which includes a full kitchen, resembles an apartment living situation. Students will be eligible if they excel at all independent living skills during their first year in the program.

Campus Opportunities

The vibrant campus life and caring community of Southeastern University give Link students the opportunity to become as involved as they would like. Here are just a few examples.

Social Peer Mentors. Trained Social Peer Mentors help facilitate Link students becoming involved in social activities.
Athletics. Our strong athletic program provides opportunities for students to attend or become involved in events.
Chapel Services. Link students enjoy worshipping with other SEU students during the variety of campus chapel services available each week.
Clubs & Events. Link students are welcome to join any campus organization and participate in intramural athletics.
